"Who Else Wants Access To
The High-End Titanium Carabiner
...No One Else DARED Make?"
From: Magnus Macdonald, MagnusX.com
I'll be honest here... the titanium carabiner I'm about to show you was designed for purely selfish reasons.
Over the years I've bought a number of carabiners (many of them from Kickstarter) - but I've never been 100% happy with any of them.
The biggest "issue" I found was that, while a few of the carabiners I've owned looked great, this was usually at the expense of functionality
(almost always there would be "side play" in the gate
part of the carabiner).
After a lot of development, testing and tweaking (which started around two years ago!) I managed to come up with a design which should
be the last carabiner I ever need.
Let's get straight into the details of the McDangle™...
If you're familiar with my work, then you'll know I only produce products from Grade 5 Titanium. I do this because I make things with the aim of them lasting ...literally forever!
I'm not sure if you know this, but...
Grade 5 Titanium specifically has around 30% more "elasticity" than, say, ordinary steel (and some other titanium grades as well) and this is absolutely critical to the "spring" function of the gate of the carabiner.
To put it another way... only Grade 5 Titanium has the specific properties required to allow the gate of the McDangle™ to function as it does.
Did I mention that Grade 5 Titanium is 100% corrosion resistant (well, it's actually pretty much everything resistant!).
The McDangle™ is entirely precision cnc-machined on Japanese-made milling machines. This is critical for the ultra-tight tolerances between the gate and the body.
As with the approach to my other designs... the McDangle™ has a minimalist look and feel. There is no "fancy stuff". Just clean and simple.
One of the criteria the McDangle™ had to meet was to have absolutely no risk of it accidentally opening and slipping off whatever it is attached to.
I achieved this by doing two things in the design:
#1 - I've made sure the spring in the gate is strong - it needs some decent amount of force to open it.
#2 - Where the gate meets the body I have ensured there is a smooth "arcing" - a smooth flow of the design lines. Not only that but I have also ensured that where the gate meets the body it is 100% flush - there is no "step" between the two components.
These two design elements GUARANTEE the McDangle™ can never accidentally become unclipped.
You've no doubt noticed there are no screws or such holding the gate into the body. And, quite possibly, you're thinking, "Magnus, how does the gate not fall out?"
Quite simple really...
I've machined a "shoulder" into the body of the McDangle™ ...and there is a "groove" in the gate that allows it to slip onto this shoulder:
As you can see in the photo above... whether the gate is open or closed on the McDangle™ - it's physically impossible for the gate to come off. It's not going anywhere!
One thing I wanted to make sure the McDangle™ had was a smooth, working action - this was critical (there is nothing worse than something with a "gritty" feel to it!)
The movement of the gate of the McDangle™ is very smooth because of the precision cnc-machining we do to it ...and also due to the tumbling/finishing process it goes through. This combination of things ensure the action of the gate is buttery smooth!
The design went through many iterations to ensure the feel of the McDangle™ was smooth in the hand.
The McDangle™ is chamfered all around the edges so there are no "hot spots" (basically, no single points or areas that will dig into your hand or fingers).
You probably already know this... but the McDangle™ is not designed for climbing use - it is for day-to-day everyday carry.
In saying that, I still designed it to be somewhat grunty! It is made from 8mm (around 0.30") thick Grade 5 Titanium plate.
I've haven't done any official load-bearing testing - but it will certainly handle pretty much anything you can throw at it.
Proprietary Surface Finish
As with all my titanium products... the McDangle™ is going to get my one-of-a-kind surface finish.
The finish has a matte look that is somewhat (but not completely) resistant to scratches. But, hey, the McDangle™ is design to be used and abused!
I've made two versions of the McDangle™:
The "Original" version...
And the "Loop" version...
Let's take a look at the dimensions of the McDangle™:
Here’s just a small sample of the frequent emails and messages I receive all the time from Backers and Customers:
One more thing…
You’re going to be receiving my personal unconditional, lifetime guarantee.
If you find the McDangle™ is just not for you, then let me know and I’ll give you back your pledge amount. No questions asked.
In fact, I can do even better for you...
Use the McDangle™for as long as you like. Test it for a day, a week and month, or even a year. And, if your experience of using the McDangle™ doesn't blow you away... you can return it to me at any time. And I'll refund your entire pledge amount to you.
To impossibly high standards,
P.S. Remember, when you click the ‘Back This Project’ button you’re also going to be getting my 100% Risk-Free Unconditional LIFETIME Guarantee! If you’re not absolutely blown-away with your McDangle™ when you rip open the package just let me know ...and I’ll personally refund you every single penny you pledged. No questions asked.
Why Is Shipping So High?
With the last few Kickstarter projects I launched I used a "standard" shipping service and, in some cases, it proved to be slow and unreliable - which was very frustrating for Backers.
This time I am only using a Express service ...with no exceptions. Yes, it's not cheap ...but you are guaranteed to have your Reward 100% trackable and delivered within a week of me shipping it to you!
Why Do You Offer An Unconditional Money-Back Guarantee?
Simple: I am very, VERY confident of the quality of what I make. I can’t see any reason why I wouldn’t offer such a guarantee to you.
It’s difficult for you to see the quality of the McDangle™ BEFORE you physically receive it. So what I CAN do for you is to remove ALL “risk” in backing this project. Know that you can return your McDangle™ if you're not blown-away by the quality and functionality of it.
